UUM ONLINE: Perlis - A total of 27 new students received their respective admission offer letters to pursue their studies at Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) for the 2021/2022 academic session at the UUM Prihatin Santuni Mahasiswa Anak Perlis programme held at the Kubang Gajah Multipurpose Hall, Arau, recently.

The presentation of offer letters was officiated by Dato' Seri Dr. Shahidan Kassim, Member of Parliament for Arau and Minister of Federal Territories, who was accompanied by Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman Abdullah, the Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Research and Innovation) who is performing the duties of Vice-Chancellor.

In his speech, Dato' Seri Dr. Shahidan stated that young people will be able to sculpt their own accomplishments if they establish goals in life such as earning first class in their studies.

“Congratulations to the youths here who managed to secure a place at UUM and I thank and appreciate the noble efforts by UUM for coming personally to present the offer letters to students. This noble action sets a good example.

According to him, education can transform lives and families, even if just one child attends the university.

He stated that education is a necessary component of life and urged young people to stand-up for it, stating that the effort may transform lives.

Meanwhile, Prof. Dr. Haim Hilman expressed his delight in being able to share his concern by coming down personally to honour the new students.

"If students demonstrate the highest level of commitment and secure the highest grade possible in their studies, their tuition fees will be converted into a scholarship. Therefore, work diligently to ensure that any loans acquired can qualify as scholarships, and at the same time, we also provide scholarships from corporate sponsors such as Maybank and Petronas.

"Additionally, UUM has 260 associations, so take advantage of the opportunity to hone your abilities not just in terms of academics but also in terms of moral principles," he advised.

He stated that UUM will continue to serve the community through a variety of initiatives focused on caring for others and confronting the real-world realities of the community.

According to him, he wanted the youths to learn how to connect with the society so that when they are appointed as community leaders or industrial leaders, they do not feel out of place, in addition to being adept at carrying themselves in an effort to sow love and devotion.

Ms. Purani d/o Gunalan, a soon-to-be UUM Bachelor of Science in Economics student, stated her successful acceptance into UUM provided her satisfaction because all her hard work of studying had finally shown results, not to mention that UUM is her university of choice.

“I have been studying a lot of materials relating to my field of study at UUM and cannot wait to set foot on campus that is equipped with state-of-the-art infrastructure and a lovely green setting, the best lecturers, and a variety of activities," said the aspiring economist.
