FOREWORD BY THE VICE-CHANCELLOR FOR ALUMNI

Assalamualaikum (WBT) and a very good day.

Praise be to ALLAH SWT for all the blessings bestowed upon us.

So much has changed in the world and in our community amid the Covid-19 pandemic. In these uncertain times, it is reassuring to know that Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) continues to be strong in providing excellent education and solidifying its reputation, both nationally, and internationally.

The University is a unique institution in its own right where characters are built, talents nurtured and knowledge accumulated. It is home to where knowledge ‘ILMU’ is received and returned in the form of virtue ‘BUDI’ and service ‘BAKTI’.

Being an UUM alumnus is a privilege and an honour bestowed when you graduated from the University. The experiences gained and memories created in Sintok, Kedah will undoubtedly help enrich your present life and build your career. I am proud to be a part of the UUM alumni huge family with almost 150,000 members spread across the world. We have quite a presence. As alumni, you are our best ambassadors through your professional career paths and your willingness to serve. You have established yourself as successful individuals in respective fields and have done the University proud.

Lest we forget, your Alma Mater is in need of your generous contribution and support towards helping the present, and future generation of students. In the present context of Covid-19 pandemic hardship, many of the them are trying very hard to cope with the situation and would be very grateful to receive assistance from UUM alumni.

The pandemic has also made it quite challenging to engage the alumnus face to face (F2F). However, I can assure you that the UUM Alumni Centre is trying its very best to organize alumni events, regional networking get-togethers, career advisory services, and social media resources available through the Alumni Centre and the University.

In conclusion, I urge that all UUM Alumni to give back to the University in whatever form of assistance you are comfortable with, either monetary or non-monetary basis.  I am sure there are many ways to give back, from career and academic mentoring to volunteering your time in on and off-campus events, or to simply attend any UUM academic and social events. I encourage you to explore all that we have to offer to stay connected and make yourself proud as a UUM alumnus.

Together we work towards strengthening our alumni community and UUM.

Thank you.

UUM ONLINE: For 37 years, Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM) has stood majestically nestled in the midst of Sintok valley and has continued to produce countless graduates signifying its maturity, level of experience and achievements obtained both on the local and international front.

Assalammualaikum warahmatullahi wabarakatuh.

Alhamdulillah, in the name of Allah S.W.T. let us show our humble gratitude to the Almighty for His bounteous blessings that have enabled us to produce a Newsletter for all Alumni of Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM). I would also like to take this opportunity to express my sincere congratulations and a warm welcome to the Alumni Newsletter which will be released on a monthly basis.

UUM Alumni Newsletter is our part of our efforts and the best avenue to reach out to all our Alumni, business associates and friends. This is also our initiative to bring current events and updates on the campus activities to our valued readers and Alumni.

There is no doubt that Alumni are one of the vital assets to the University for the reason that through Alumni engagement, various student development programmes, career development strategies as well as a number of UUM facilities and infrastructure can be further improved.

UUM now has almost 150,000 alumni working in various sectors and industries. In view of that, I believe with this large number, the involvement of Alumni is highly expected in helping the university to hone the talents and skills of our students while improving the marketability of our Graduates.

Last but not least, to support our vision, I hope that UUM will continue to receive tremendous assistance from everyone and I am certainly positive that many more successes and achievements will be accomplished in the near future. To support our vision, I would like to invite all UUM Alumni to be the forefront in assisting our university to be the Eminent Management University.

InsyaAllah, with our strong commitment towards excellence, we can achieve more successes and play more significant roles for the development of UUM and our beloved country.

The mission of Alumni E-Newsletter is to keep our readers posted with up-to-date information of the university.

In almost four decades, University Utara Malaysia (UUM) has resolutely proven itself as one of the finest universities in Malaysia and in the world.  UUM has created generations of brilliant scholars and outstanding leaders among its alumni.

Being the Director of Alumni Centre and also an alumna of UUM, I am really proud of the remarkable achievement of the University. But who has made this possible?  I have no doubt that the University’s success depends of its alumni achievement and support to the alma mater.

Thus, UUM Alumni Centre has emphasized on the core strategic pillars which aim to establish closer ties with the alumni.  The pillars comprise of nine core activities of Alumni Centre which are Alumni Tracing, Alumni Bonding, Alumni Engagement, Alumni Collaboration, Alumni Mentoring, Alumni Premiere Lecture, Alumni Care, Alumni Homecoming and Alumni Endowment. These pillars accentuate long-term relationships with alumni through several events, networking and voluntary programmes. Alumni E-Newsletter could be a remarkable platform to support those pillars.

With that, me and my Alumni Centre team present to you our first alumni newsletter! If you have any suggestions or requests for the future, we’d love to hear from you. Happy Reading!
